February 24th
Sad – our last day of vacation! We woke up in our hotel room at Casa Bueras after a much needed long night of sleep. After such a go-go-go trip, we relished in allowing ourselves a slow morning for once, taking a leisurely breakfast chilling on the property before heading into the streets of Santiago once more. We didn’t have much of a plan today, which seemed like a great plan! Heading out around noon, we headed to the Bellavista neighborhood for lunch at Taipa – Santiago. We got some tasty seafood once again – some Peruvian ceviche and a delicious seafood rice dish, along with pina coladas (it was 90 degrees outside after all).
After another delicious meal, we sat off to the Furnicular, a cable transportation system that summits to the top of Cristóbal Hill. Now, over 6 million people live in the city of Santiago, so when we summited to the top, we really saw the breadth and sprawl of the city down below, and we’d only been in a glimpse of it! There wasn’t much to do at the top after walking around the church and seeing the Statue of the Immaculate Conception, so we got some ice cream and descended back into the neighborhood.
The rest of the afternoon was spent walking around the neighborhood and trying out a few different bars (including going back to Chipe Libre for more pisco cocktails). For the very last planned event of the evening, we went to Bocanariz, a wine bar in the Bellavista neighborhood. We got to try flights of various Chilean wines to accompany our (shocker) last fish dinner, then went back to the hotel to catch our taxi to the airport. Glad we got to enjoy one last day in Santiago before heading home!
